Up Front was established in January 2005, by 5 ladies who had individually been through the breast cancer experience. They were brought together by two Specialist Breast Care Nurses, who supported and assisted in the setting up of the Group.
Whilst all of the ladies were happy with their medical treatment and found all the staff very helpful and professional, they found that their experience was quite isolating and frightening; there were very few people to turn to for support, who genuinely understood how they were feeling at the time. The ladies therefore felt passionate about setting up a forum to help others through the breast cancer experience and provide the basis for a support network.

…So Up Front was established; over the last few years the group has gone from strength to strength! There are now well over 200 members from the surrounding Chiltern area who dip in and out of the group when they feel the need. At each meeting you will always find welcoming, friendly faces, and someone with whom to share your experiences within the safe and informal environment of The Chiltern Hospital.
Up Front is run on a purely voluntary basis and we are so fortunate to have the kind support of The Chiltern Hospital who provide a lovely room and refreshments for our monthly meetings. Although Up Front is non-profit making, all donations and monies raised (e.g. from raffles, events, sales of Up Front T-shirts etc) are donated in turn, to other breast cancer-related charities, which are decided upon annually by our members.
