Some of the highlights from 2006

Up Front’s first meeting took place on 12th January 2006; it was a fantastic evening of pink champagne, canapés, great chat and general merriment! Dr Alan Makepeace (Oncologist from the Chiltern Hospital), made the opening address and several new friendships were made! During February’s meeting, an acupuncturist did an interesting talk about how acupuncture can help alleviate the side-effects of cancer treatment and March gave us great insight into how to eat healthily for life, as well as better understand some of the nutritional benefits of specific cancer-preventing foods.

We were all a bit nervous about what May’s talk on ‘gynaecological-related aspects of treatment’ might reveal! but we were all put at ease by Mr Bill Tingey’s great sense of humour and very informative talk. In June, we all got a chance to experience some reflexology treatments first hand, as well as learn about the benefits of it. This was so popular, that we ran a more general ‘Relaxation’ evening later in September, demonstrating many types of complementary therapies – we all went home feeling like we were floating!

In July, we had a professional make-up artist show us some of the tricks of the trade using the contents of our very own make-up bags with amazing results! This coupled with a wonderful presentation of M&S’s new lingerie range in October, ensured that we could look and feel good with confidence!

We rounded off the year’s programme with a very interesting talk on Lymphoedema in November by our very own Christina Macey
and our (now infamous!) Christmas quiz night
in December, where there was an overwheming amount of Christmas spirit – not to mention
the cheating!
